After meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an interview to the American Fox News television channel.
When asked whether Zelensky intended to apologize to Trump after the debate in the Oval Office, the Ukrainian President replied that he did not feel guilty.
“I respect the President and I respect the American people. I don’t think we did anything wrong,” the Ukrainian leader said, adding that his relations with Trump should be above the relations between the two presidents, because this is a matter of relations between the two peoples.
Zelensky also thanked the United States for supporting Kyiv, noting that he does not want to lose the partnership with the United States.
“With all due respect, we do not see a sufficient amount of new support from the United States,” the President said.
He stressed that Ukraine seeks long-term peace, but peace is not simply the absence of war. According to Zelensky, he is open to negotiations with Russia if the United States provides guarantees for Ukraine’s security.
The Ukrainian President noted that he is also ready to sign an agreement on rare metals. In his opinion, this deal could be the first step towards American guarantees. At the same time, Zelensky stressed that Europe also needs certain security guarantees from the United States so that European peacekeeping forces can be deployed in Ukraine after the war ends.
