The agenda of discussing the crime of genocide has once again brought together political figures, representatives of international organizations, renowned scholars, judges, human rights advocates, and members of civil society in Yerevan for the 5th Global Forum “Against the Crime of Genocide”, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated during the forum.
The Minister recalled that, in addition to hosting the forum, Armenia is also the author of the UN Human Rights Council’s resolution on the prevention of genocide, adopted in March 2024. A central theme of the resolution is ensuring early warning and timely response to genocide.
“Over the years, substantial additions have been made to the resolution, and there has never been a shortage of topics for discussion at each global forum. However, as paradoxical as it may sound, I cannot present this as a positive observation. This reality is a painful acknowledgment of our—meaning the international community's—lack of efficiency or, to be frank, our collective inability to prevent ongoing crimes against humanity and acts of genocide worldwide.
Even days ago, on December 9, the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime, just three days before that, and even today, in various corners of the world, particularly in zones of armed conflict, we continue to witness genocidal actions, manifestations, and signals that point to emerging crimes against humanity,” said Mirzoyan.
