The UN climate summit COP29 started in Baku. Delegates from around the world gather here in hopes of finding ways to prevent global warming and fulfill the promises made in the Paris Agreement.
The current summit is called the "finance COP" because for the first time in 15 years, the volume and structure of financing for developing countries to support climate action will be examined.
According to the UN, more than 100 heads of state and government have confirmed their participation in the summit.
However, a number of world leaders and government officials have already announced that they will not go to Baku. For various reasons, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, US President Joe Biden, Great Britain's King Charles III, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Ministers of Canada, Australia, Netherlands, India and South Africa Justin Trudeau, Anthony Albanese, Dick Schoof, Narendra Modi, Cyril Ramaphosa will not participate in the COP29 summit.
40,000 people will attend this year's COP29 summit, compared to a total of 83,884 at last year's Dubai summit.
