The Defender called upon the international actors to take all possible measures to reopen the Lachin Corridor and stop the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh that is worsening each day, the Ombudsperson’s press office reports.
The joint Ad hoc report of Human Rights Defenders of Armenia and Artsakh on "The Humanitarian Consequences of the Blockade of the Only Road Connecting Artsakh with Armenia and the World by Azerbaijan" published on 15 December 2022, as well as substantive information on violations of the rights of a separate group of persons was presented to two dozen international organizations with a mandate to protect human rights and other actors involved in the resolution of the conflict, including UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mr. Volker Türk, CoE Human Rights Commissioner Ms. Dunja Mijatović, EU Special Representative for Human Rights Mr. Eamon Gilmore and others.
Among other things, gross violations of people's rights to life, health, and food were presented to the UN Special rapporteurs on thematic issues and called upon to take all possible measures to reopen the Lachin Corridor and stop the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh that is worsening each day.
It is noteworthy that the issues of the most vulnerable groups, including detailed information on the continuous violation of the rights of older persons, children, and persons with disabilities, have been brought to the close attention of international actors based on a thorough analysis of the events taking place under the conditions of complete blockade for 9 days since December 12.
The Defender's office continues to provide information and facts to international organizations regarding the ongoing violations of human rights and the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh due to Azerbaijan's policy of Armenophobia.
