The secretary-general of NATO on Monday thanked Turkish President Recep Erdoğan for his “active support” and efforts to “find political solution” to the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, Ahval reports.
Jens Stoltenberg made the remarks in a Twitter post, where he spoke with the Turkish President, discussing the buildup of Russian troops near Ukraine.
The build-up of an estimated 10,000 Russian forces has fuelled concerns for the West of a possible offensive.
Moscow has denied any plans to attack its neighbour, but demands that the United States and its allies bar Ukraine and other former Soviet countries from joining NATO, halt weapons deployments there and roll back NATO forces from eastern Europe - a demand rejected by both Washington and NATO.
