A new residential district is being built in the village of Karmir Shuka in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the area is 15 hectares. In the first stage, it is planned to assemble 127 wooden houses. Five were included in the pilot program. Four builders can assemble one house in 20 days.
“The availability of construction materials is of great importance. If the building material is available, everything will be fine,” says Armen Vardanyan, responsible for construction.
The houses will be provided to families displaced from neighboring Taghavard. During the 44-day war, Azerbaijan occupied almost half of the community, as a result of which more than 600 citizens lost their homes. The area is privatized, but it is necessary to understand, people do not have a house, says the head of the comminity.
“It should be recognized by the Government as a priority interest, and there should be compensation. I believe that everyone understands this is due to the war situation, and we have to make concessions in some cases to provide people with houses,” says Narek Atayan, head of Karmir Shuka community.
The housing program is implemented with the funding of ‘Hayastan’ All-Armenian Fund. A total of 1200 square meters of land is provided for each private house. The person in charge of the construction assures that residents will not have a problem with heating or thermal insulation.
Housing projects are also planned in Shosh. Before that, however, the vacant houses will be renovated to provide for the displaced, eight families have already been accepted. After the 44-day war, Shosh is a border community, too, and shots are heard from here every day.
“Almost every day and at different times, but not targeted. The sound is heard, but we do not know in which direction, we do not see,” says Erik Abrahamyan, Head of Shosh Community of Artsakh.
The Karmir Shuka-Shosh road, which is also used by Azerbaijani cars, will be equipped with video cameras in the near future.
