The Twitter post of Istanbul’s Dayanışma (Solidarity) group on the occasion of the 106-th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide caused a stir among Turkish users, Ermenihaber reports.
The group quoted an excerpt from the words of the Armenian national-liberation movement figure, writer Paramaz. “Paramaz (Matteos Sargsyan), member of the Hunchakian party, in May 1915, was hanged for plotting to assassinate the leaders of the Union and Progress party. He made a self-defense speech at the court, in which he said the following: “Whatever we have done for the welfare of this country. We have made many sacrifices to ensure Armenians’ and Turks’ brotherhood. We consumed energy; we shed a lot of blood. And not only did you not ignore our efforts, but you also deliberately tried to destroy us.”
The group, addressing the Turkish government and society, wrote: “You have forgotten that the extermination of the Armenians will mean the collapse of the whole of Turkey. On the 106-th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, we share the pain of the Armenian people.”
The post ended with the #ArmenianGenocide hashtag.
