Well-known Latvian artists, intellectuals and cultural figures have issued a statement calling on Azerbaijan to speed up the return of the bodies of Armenian victims, as well as the prisoners of war and captives, the Armenian Embassy to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia informs.
The statement particularly says: "We, the artists, intellectuals and cultural figures of the Republic of Latvia, believing in the potential of human values and joining our Lithuanian counterparts, call on the Azerbaijani authorities not to interfere the immediate return of prisoners of war and other captives, as well as the return of the bodies of soldiers killed during the recent hostilities in the Karabakh war to the Republic of Armenia. According to our information, Armenia has already returned all prisoners of war to Azerbaijan.
We are convinced that the immediate return of all prisoners of war without preconditions is one of the necessary steps to restore mutual trust between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia.
We call on the international community to join this humanitarian initiative, thus helping to overcome the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the recent war in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh)."
