Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview during his visit to Nakhijevan, announcing that the project to construct a power transmission line from Azerbaijan to Nakhijevan through the territory of Armenia within the framework of the TRIPP project is ready. According to him, Azerbaijani specialists have already conducted an analysis and clarified the locations where the supports for the power transmission lines could be installed.
Aliyev also announced that the TRIPP project has already started. According to him, during a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on August 8, the two sides agreed that the project would be implemented “in the near future.”
“Within the framework of the TRIPP project, the railway being constructed on the territory of Azerbaijan will reach the Armenian border as early as next year. The Horadiz-Aghband highway is practically ready,” he noted.
According to Ilham Aliyev, the European Union is interested in the Nakhijevan railway project. “Representatives of the Union have already visited Nakhijevan, where they familiarized themselves with the situation on the ground. The European Union, as well as a number of other international organizations and states, are interested in this transport route and want to become participants in the project,” he noted.
Aliyev stressed that once the Nakhijevan railway is restored, a second railway connecting Azerbaijan with Iran will be constructed. “The North-South Transport Corridor is directed toward the Persian Gulf. From there, it can extend to Pakistan, which is located close to this region,” he concluded.
