Tehran supports the idea of cooperation with other Gulf states to ensure security in the region, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, Press TV reports.
Araghchi confirmed Iran's readiness to hold a dialogue with other Persian Gulf coastal countries to create a collective security mechanism that would be independent, based on agreement, and free from foreign military intervention.
Araghchi made the announcement in Baghdad, where he held meetings on Sunday.
Also, Iran's foreign minister called for a new approach to regional security based on cooperation and mutual trust.
And speaking about the future management of the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi stressed that Iran, in line with its obligations and the provisions of the memorandum of understanding with the US, will also take the necessary measures and continue cooperation with Oman as a neighboring coastal state, as well as dialogue with other countries in the region.
