The U.S. President had presented proposals to Iran in hopes of resuming negotiations with the country, BBC reports.
Iran, however, rejected the settlement terms proposed by the United States, describing them as equivalent to “capitulation,” and declared its “full readiness” to defend its nuclear facilities, according to Iran’s state-run Tasnim News Agency.
Iran has focused on ending the war, including in Lebanon. Tehran has once again demanded compensation for war damages and insisted on Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran also called on the United States to end the naval blockade, guarantee a halt to further attacks, lift sanctions, and remove the ban on Iranian oil sales, the Iranian agency reported.
U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposals.
“I just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘representatives.’ I don’t like it. It is absolutely unacceptable,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform.
Notably, the swift reaction from the U.S. President led to a sharp rise in oil prices. Prices for Brent crude and U.S. crude oil rose by 4 percent during early Monday trading.
