At the beginning of the European Political Community meeting in Yerevan, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held a brief meeting with journalists.
The questions mainly concerned U.S.–EU–NATO relations. The head of the North Atlantic Alliance first noted that the EPC summit is being held in Yerevan, to which the United States is not a member, which explains the absence of the U.S. from the event. Rutte also stated that global and transatlantic issues will be discussed.
He recalled that the American side has expressed a certain level of dissatisfaction regarding Europe’s response to the current developments in the Middle East and the campaign carried out by Israel and the United States against Iran. Rutte also noted that European leaders have received the U.S. message, and all countries are now participating through bilateral agreements to ensure all necessary logistical support.
According to the Secretary General of the Alliance, “Europeans are stepping up, and Europe has a major role to play in strengthening NATO.”
The NATO Secretary General also emphasized that Armenia is doing an excellent job and that everything is very well organized.
