We are entering a completely new phase of economic development, and it is linked to the peace process established between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are expecting major developments in the near future, primarily related to the launch of the TRIPP project, which is significant in that it will ultimately bring the Republic of Armenia fully out of blockade, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a meeting with representatives of major employers in Armenia.
“Today, Armenia has also overcome the blockade, because you know that rail freight transport to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory is already possible and is being carried out. But I also want to say that the clear political commitment is that exports can also be carried out by rail, of course through Georgia, until we open the railway first within the framework of the TRIPP project with Azerbaijan, and this is very important.
I want to say that the political agreement is that this railway will never be closed, meaning it will be a reliable route for both imports and exports. However, as I understand, we are not yet using the railway for exports in a significant way, because it is clear that 30 years of logistical chains have been operating; in order to transform them, trust is needed—people need to understand how sustainable and reliable what is being said is. And secondly, logistical chains must change, because it is one thing when we think in terms of trucks, and another when we think in terms of rail wagons,” he said.
