Kaja Kallas said as she was arriving to the EU Council in Brussels the latest attacks by Iran on Qatar energy infrastructures create further chaos, “and it's clear that we need an exit from this war, not escalation”.
She also emphasized that the EU is closely working with the UN “to find a safe passage for the ships” through the Strait of Hormuz, underlining “it's really a problem for especially Asia as well as Africa that the oil, gas, but also fertilizers”.
Ukraine is also obviously on the menu of the EU Council. Kallas said “it's really time to show our support to Ukraine, because the war in the Middle East is connected to the war in Ukraine. And unfortunately, Russia is gaining from the war in the Middle East.” On Hungary blocking the loan to Ukraine, she insisted “now they are taking their agreement back. And we also have, you know, a clause in our treaties that we are, you know, cooperating in good faith. And this is definitely not one of them”.
