The Margara crossing point on the Armenian side of the border with Türkiye is technically equipped with all the necessary facilities for servicing passengers and cargo, officials told reporters on Monday.
“The checkpoint is fully re-equipped and ready to carry out customs functions,” Rafael Gevorgyan, the Deputy Head of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia, said.
“All necessary equipment is installed and ready to service both passengers and cargo. The State Revenue Committee has already selected the employees who will carry out customs services at this checkpoint, and in the event of the border reopening, we are ready to provide the necessary services,” he added.
Aram Petrosyan, Head of the SRC Customs Service and Control Department of Land Border Crossing Points, likewise highlighted the facility’s modern equipment.
“There are X-ray devices required for the physical inspection of passengers’ luggage, electronic scales, devices intended for the screening of individuals, as well as equipment for conducting radiological control of vehicles,” he said.
Colonel Robert Gharsoyan, the Chief of the Border Control Unit of the Border Guard Troops of the National Security Service, told reporters that border guards are conducting 24-hour service at the checkpoint and stand ready to fulfill their duties as soon as it is reopened.
