In my deep conviction, peace provides Armenia and Azerbaijan with the opportunity to significantly enhance their sovereignty,” said Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, during the conference titled 'Orbeli Forum: Building Peace and Multilateral Cooperation.'
“This is a textbook example – any conflict creates fertile ground for third countries or geopolitical centers to pursue their own interests within that conflict and to strengthen their leverage over the conflicting parties. Peace, among other things, will give both Armenia and Azerbaijan the opportunity to strengthen and consolidate their sovereignty,” the Minister said.
According to Mirzoyan, there have never been absolutely independent states in the world, as countries are interconnected through trade and other relations. However, he noted, this interconnection should not be viewed negatively, since it is one of the mechanisms for the development of countries and societies.
“From a political and strategic point of view, we are able – and already managing – to strengthen our sovereignty. On the other hand, of course, some may view these numerous interconnections as the exact opposite – as a lack of sovereignty,” Mirzoyan added.
