Work of 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest PA ends

On October 30, the work of the 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly continued in the RA National Assembly. The Co-Presidents of the Euronest PA Maria Karapetyan and Sergey Lagodinsky chaired it.
 
The reports adopted in 4 Committees were summed up at the Meeting, Armenian Parliament’s press office reports.
 
The Member of the European Parliament Oliver Schenk and the Representative of Ukraine Ivan Krulko are the Co-Rapporteurs of the issue On the future of the Eastern Partnership and new perspectives of the EU enlargement policy for the sake of the need for peace, security and stability in the region, adopted at the Meeting of the Committee on Political Affairs, Human Rights and Democracy.
 
Oliver Schenk underlined that in recent years the Eastern Partnership has been one of the most important cornerstones of the European Union. Speaking about the document, the Rapporteur noted: “The Eastern Partnership should more closely work with the EU on security, defence, energy policy and focus on civil society, independent media and democratic movements. In terms of these new political priorities, we call on for an Eastern Partnership Summit in 2027 to bring together the EU Member States, partner countries and civil society to approve a new vision for the coming decade.” According to the MEP, the Eastern Partnership must evolve into a strategic instrument. “Those, who defend the European values, will receive our full support, and those who undermine them must face serious consequences.,” the Rapporteur said, concluding his speech.
 
Presenting details on the document, Ivan Krulko noted that the future of the Eastern Partnership, as well as the new prospects of the EU enlargement policy are presented.
 
The Co-President of the Euronest PA, the Head of the NA delegation to the Euronest PA, Maria Karapetyan presented for debate the report Promoting fair trade, cooperation and investments between the EU and the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries in support of connectivity, green transition and infrastructure development. “We believe in the idea of the new European strategy ‘Global Gateway’, emphasizing that it is not only an economic initiative, but also a strategic framework.,” the Co-Rapporteur Maria Karapetyan noted, adding that ‘global gates’ means a model based on transparency, stability and equal partnership. According to the Rapporteur, the connection must be accompanied by guarantees of good governance, the rule of law and integration, and judicial independence and anti-corruption measures are important. This resolution calls for support of the SMEs and women-led enterprises for the sake of inclusive growth. Within the framework of the topic, Maria Karapetyan cited the examples of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. In this regard, she spoke about the broad opportunities offered by the Crossroads of Peace project initiated by the Government of Armenia in terms of unblocking regional infrastructure.
 
Then, MEP Pierfrancesco Maran presented the report on an interconnected energy future. The document aims to accelerate the development of energy relations, prevent political interference and, through continued cooperation, achieve and reach energy sovereignty. It was noted that the Ukrainian delegation submitted 2 amendments.
 
Next, a reference was made to the report Europe’s Great Horizon: Open for the Best Researchers debated and adopted at the Meeting of the Committee on Social, Employment, Education, Culture and Civil Society Affairs. The Co-President, Head of the NA delegation to the Organization Maria Karapetyan presented the document. The document was presented. Speaking about the importance of the report, Maria Karapetyan noted: “We live in an era of geopolitical pressures, where there is competition, challenges, and countries need to invest in scientific systems in order to survive in a rapidly changing environment and global competitiveness.” The Ukrainian delegation presented proposals on the document.
 
At the end of the Session the reports debated by voting were adopted, after which the reports held in the work groups and the upcoming plans.
 
The Co-Presidents of the 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Maria Karapetyana and Sergey Lagodinsky summed up the work of the Session, underscored the efficiency of the debates and the disputes.
 
After the end of the Session work Maria Karapetyan and Sergey Lagodinsky referred to the work done at the briefing with the representatives of the mass media.
