“We are an associate member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, but since last year our mandate package has slightly increased, meaning we participate in activities to stay informed and, when necessary, have the opportunity to raise questions and receive answers on issues that concern us,” said Andranik Kocharyan, head of the Armenian delegation to the NATO PA, during a press briefing held as part of the Rose-Roth Seminar launched in Armenia.
“The authority of associate members has now been expanded. In addition, the last time the Rose-Roth Seminar was held in Armenia was 10 years ago. When the proposal was made to our delegation in the United States during the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, we gladly accepted it, recognizing that this platform can be very useful for regional peace and achieving our goals,” he added.
Kocharyan also highlighted the speeches of high-ranking NATO officials, noting that they are aimed at advancing the global peace agenda. “First of all we are the peace in the Caucasus. We need to build our vision of peace within the framework of concrete documents, which has already begun in Washington,” he said.
Referring to the purpose of holding the seminar in Armenia, Kocharyan noted that Armenia wanted to bring the Caucasus-related agenda to the country and discuss it with both NATO member and non-member states.
