Armenia is currently working toward unblocking regional transport links, and contacts with American partners are expected to intensify, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said during a Government-Parliament Q&A session. He was responding to a question from Civil Contract MP Maria Karapetyan regarding follow-up steps after the August 8 meeting in Washington.
“Today, we are actively working in the direction of unblocking. We expect contacts with our American partners to intensify in the near future, particularly in terms of understanding the joint Armenia–U.S. railway project and other infrastructure initiatives,” Mirzoyan noted.
He reminded that, “as we have previously stated, nothing has been agreed upon beyond what is written and publicly disclosed. There are still many technical conditions that need to be negotiated.”
Mirzoyan stressed Armenia’s interest in moving forward swiftly:
“Our goal is to implement the process as quickly as possible and to achieve unblocking as soon as possible. Because, let me repeat, people often talk about ‘Azerbaijan's corridor through Armenia to Nakhijevan,’ but to the exact same degree, under the same conditions, it is Armenia that is being unblocked. Let’s not forget that the Republic of Armenia has been under blockade from two sides for over 30 years. Now we are the ones gaining opportunities.”
The Foreign Minister added that everything will be done to implement the Washington agreements without delay, based on the principles already outlined.
“We are working with the American side. We are also continuing to work with the Azerbaijani side on unblocking. There may be developments in the border delimitation process as well,” he said. “There have been years of diplomatic battles between the sides. Now, we must understand, refine, and clarify everything.”
