Armenia and Iran have agreed to build a second bridge on their border, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
In his remarks Pashinyan recalled that the two countries seek to boost the trade turnover up to $1 billion and then to $3 billion.
“We’ve factually approached the 1 billion threshold and we are consistently working to achieve the next target,” he said, adding that the free trade agreement between Iran and Eurasian Economic Union states has created new opportunities for businesses.
Pashinyan said Armenia and Iran are actively cooperating in the fields of the economy, infrastructures, energy, healthcare, culture, environment, as well as engaging in active political dialogue.
He pointed out several infrastructure projects.
Pashinyan said the 32km Kajaran-Agarak section, which is under construction by an Iranian company, is of strategic importance for Armenia. He expressed confidence that the road would be commissioned in the defined timeframes.
“Given the daily growing volume of transportation between our countries, we agreed to build a second bridge on the Armenian-Iranian border,” Pashinyan said.
He said he discussed with Iran’s president the Armenia-Iran 3rd power transmission line project, which will enable more electricity exports from Armenia to Iran. He said the project must be completed as soon as possible.
Pashinyan said Armenia attaches great importance to its strategic ties with Iran.
