Iran has officially welcomed the signing of a peace declaration between Armenia and Azerbaijan, viewing it as a positive step toward lasting stability in the region. The statement was made by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei during a press briefing.
"The signing of the peace declaration by Armenia and Azerbaijan was a sovereign decision made by both countries. We welcome this move, which we believe will pave the way for sustainable security across the region," Baghaei said.
Addressing the creation of the so-called "Trump route" — a proposed transport corridor — Baghaei stated that Iran supports efforts to lift blockades and establish new communication routes. However, he emphasized that such initiatives must respect internationally recognized borders and should not lead to any shifts in the region's geopolitical framework.
Baghaei also expressed concern over the potential presence of foreign military forces in the South Caucasus.
"We have received assurances that no foreign troops will be stationed in the region," he added.
