Israel opposes the implementation of the "two states for two peoples" principle and will not allow the establishment of a Palestinian state next to it, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar told reporters on Wednesday.
"The creation of Palestine in the heart of Israel is a solution for those who seek to destroy us. We will not allow that," The Times of Israel quoted him as saying.
He called on countries that support the creation of a Palestinian state to allocate their own territory for that purpose.
The Minister explained that establishing a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, would endanger Israel’s populated areas and leave its borders vulnerable.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that they would recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September. Similar positions have been expressed by Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
