Kobakhidze accused MEPs of trying to organize revolution in Georgia

“We need several years to draw closer to the EU member states. The law On Transparency of Foreign Influence is significant to speed up economic development,” said Prime Minister of Georgia Ikarli Kobakhidze, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.

According to the PM, the activities of non-government organizations obstructed the country’s progress by their attempts to plot revolutions under conditions of non-transparency.

“In reality, under the conditions of non-transparency, the NGOs’ activities obstructed the country’s progress, and I remind you of the outcomes of their activities. This was an attempt to organize two revolutions, in 2021 and 2022. These events impede the development of the economy,” he said.

Irakli Kobakhidze reminded that in 2020, the NGOs falsified Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) results used by the opposition later.

“This was a planned attempt to organize a revolution in 2021. They endeavoured to appoint snap elections but failed. Then in 2022, when Georgia did not receive EU candidate status, these NGOs stepped on the stage and demanded the government’s resignation,” he said.

Kobakhidze noted that if the financing of the NGOs were transparent, they would have less chance “to directly and openly engage in revolutionary processes.”
