On the night of 14 May, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, including Kyiv. In the capital, at least one person was killed and dozens were injured as a result of the strike.
Destruction and fires were recorded in several districts of the city, including Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, Holosiivskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi. Residential buildings, cars, a parking lot, a business centre, and a gas station were damaged. Rescuers continue search operations under the rubble.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service and city authorities, the number of injured continued to rise throughout the morning. A child was among those wounded. Some people were rescued from under the rubble of a high-rise building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district. Emergency and rescue operations are still ongoing there as crews search for people trapped beneath the collapsed structures, the State Emergency Service said.
In several districts of the capital, fires broke out after debris from intercepted targets fell. On the left bank of Kyiv, the Russian attack also caused disruptions to the water supply, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
During the night, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with three aeroballistic missiles, 18 ballistic missiles, and 35 cruise missiles, while also launching 675 strike drones. Ukraine’s air defence forces destroyed 41 missiles and 652 drones, according to the Air Force.
