Sergei Karakayev, the commander of the strategic missile forces, told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, 12 May, that Russia has successfully tested its new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile.
"Today at 11:15 a.m., the Strategic Missile Forces conducted a launch of the newest heavy liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile Sarmat. The launch was successful. The launch objective has been accomplished. The test results confirmed the correctness of the design and technological solutions incorporated, as well as the specified characteristics being achieved by the missile system," Karakayev told Putin during a video conference briefing.
Putin said that Russia planned to put the Sarmat on combat duty by the end of this year.
