Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about expectations from the European Political Community summit during a briefing following a government meeting.
“I am confident we will organize it well, and I hope our guests will leave Armenia with positive impressions, just as they did after the 2018 Francophonie Summit. It is, of course, a very good opportunity to enhance Armenia’s international visibility and standing, and to engage with these high-level delegations, including discussing bilateral agenda items with them. By the way, this may not have been widely noticed in Armenia, but I believe something very important has happened: India and the EU have signed a major trade agreement, which I think is directly related to our region and to Armenia, as well as Azerbaijan and Georgia. Because I believe the transit potential and significance of the South Caucasus, including as a result of this agreement, will increase further. And I am not singling out any one country. I am talking about Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, and Turkey. The sooner we find concrete formats for cooperation, the better it will be for the region, its states and peoples, and of course for our partners in the EU and India, because these deals need to become reality.
It is clear that maritime routes will be quite efficient and will continue to operate-they already do. But especially now, with the TRIPP project, the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ initiative, and the role of the South Caucasus as a transit route, the region’s importance is increasing significantly,” the prime minister noted.
