Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday that he recently asked a U.S. official visiting Yerevan to provide updates on the Trump Administration’s efforts to secure the release of Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan following the U.S. President's pledge to do so. Pashinyan said at a press briefing that during his meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, he asked Washington to continue focusing on the matter".
"During the meeting, I specifically addressed this issue, noting that President Trump, including publicly, had spoken about his commitment to addressing it,” Pashinyan said, referring to U.S. President Donald Trump’s pledge during their White House meeting to help secure the release of the 23 Armenian prisoners.“I also presented what we are doing bilaterally regarding this problem. I asked the Under Secretary of State to provide information on what efforts the United States is making in this regard, and I requested that the issue continue to be kept at the center of attention," said the Prime Minister.
During the televised meeting at the White House in August, Trump said he would ask Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to release the Armenians held in Baku.
Prime Minister Pashinyan has said on multiple occasions that daily efforts are underway to secure the release of the Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan.
