As Armenia and Azerbaijan continue to look for ways to resolve the stabilization in the Caucasus, the CSTO is ready to help in this matter, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced in an interview with TV journalist Dmitry Kiselyov.
"After the violence started in September last year, Yerevan turned to the organization. The Secretary General of the CSTO went to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, presented the plan to expand the CSTO mission in the areas bordering Armenia and Azerbaijan. It was ready a long time ago, but as a result, at the summit held in Yerevan, the Armenian partners said that their decision will be implemented only if Azerbaijan's actions are categorically condemned in it", Lavrov said, adding that not everyone was ready to do so.
The Russian Foreign Minister added that the history of the Karabakh war goes back to decades.
"For many years, Armenia occupied the seven regions of Azerbaijan. Russia offered many options for a diplomatic solution, which the former authorities of Armenia did not perceive very positively, wanting to keep the territories that Armenia never claimed. Therefore, Azerbaijan returned the lands that belonged to it", Lavrov said.
