During a press conference held at the headquarters of the Civil Contract party, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was also asked a question by a journalist from Turkey. The journalist inquired about the message he has for Turkey and Azerbaijan as well.
“You know, the message is the same: the people of Armenia want peace and regional prosperity through regional cooperation. And I hope that this will receive a positive response from both Turkey and Azerbaijan.
We must institutionalize peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but we must also open our border with Turkey. I mean, Turkey should open the border, and of course, we should establish diplomatic relations,” he said.
He noted that he is grateful for the decision to open the Akhalkalaki–Kars railway.
“You know, we have very good dynamics with Turkey and, for now, we are satisfied, but of course, we must continue this dynamic in order to achieve a final breakthrough. I mean the establishment of diplomatic relations and, of course, having a fully and completely open border. In the case of Azerbaijan, you know that we have a preliminary peace agreement. We must sign it and, by the way, we should start the TRIPP project as soon as possible, which is a regional game-changing project, because it means that the blockade of our region has been overcome.
It has been overcome, and this is very big news, because our region is transforming from a dead end into a crossroads, and this is very good news for all of us,” he noted.
