Reuters. French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy wished each other Happy New Year on Tuesday (January 6) as they held a meeting in advance of a summit of a "Coalition of the Willing" summit in Paris.
Security guarantees for Ukraine will include 'binding commitments' to support the country 'in the case of a future armed attack by Russia in order to restore peace', according to a draft statement seen by Reuters from the group of mostly European allies of Kyiv.
"These commitments may include the use of military capabilities, intelligence and logistical support, diplomatic initiatives, adoption of additional sanctions," the draft read, which still needs approval at a summit of the coalition's leaders later in the day.
U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived at France's Elysee Palace for the summit before Zelenskiy, and the two are set to meet Zelenskiy separately in the evening, according to his office.
