Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will not to attend the informal CIS summit to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the Azerbaijani president’s office has reported.
“Our head of state will not be able to participate in today’s informal summit of CIS heads of state in Saint Petersburg due to a tight work schedule,” Aliyev’s administration said Monday.
They noted that Azerbaijan participates in official CIS summits on a regular basis and attaches great importance to cooperation within the CIS framework, including the development of bilateral relations with CIS member states.
Also, the Azerbaijani president’s office explained the reasons for Aliyev’s absence from the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held in Saint Petersburg on Sunday: “President Ilham Aliyev did not attend the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held on December 21 because Azerbaijan is not a member of the Eurasian Economic Union.”
