US Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria Tom Barrack expressed hope that the border between Turkey and Armenia will be opened, Anadolu Agency reported.
Earlier, Bloomberg had reported that Ankara is considering opening its land border with Armenia within the next six months.
Barrack also addressed U.S.–Turkey relations, noting that most of the major outstanding issues have been resolved. He added that the issues still under negotiation will be settled within the next 4–6 months, and relations between Washington and Ankara will enter a “next phase.”
“These relations are strong. We always say that Turkey is our biggest ally in NATO after the EU, and that is indeed the case. Despite this, Ankara does not enjoy much respect in Europe and does not want to join the European Union,” the Ambassador said.
