Armenian Vice Speaker of Parliament Hakob Arshakyan met with Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Yuri Vorobyov, as part of an interparliamentary commission meeting in Saint Petersburg.
Arshakyan and Vorobyov serve as co-chairs of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Commission between the Armenian Parliament and the Federal Assembly of Russia.
Vice Speaker Arshakyan’s delegation included Members of Parliament Vahe Ghalumyan, Alexey Sandikov, and Shirak Torosyan.
The working meeting took place on November 28, with the agenda topic being “Prospects for the Development of Armenian-Russian Interparliamentary Cooperation.”
In his opening remarks, Vice Speaker Arshakyan emphasized that interparliamentary ties between Armenia and Russia hold a special place in bilateral relations, according to the parliament’s press service. He added that the Interparliamentary Commission continues to serve as a key platform for constructive dialogue and effective work, noting that the current year has been marked by intensified dialogue with Russia, numerous reciprocal visits and meetings, and ongoing communication between the leaders of the two countries.
During the meeting, attention was given to expanding legislative cooperation, as well as exploring opportunities to deepen collaboration in joint projects and mutually relevant sectors. The promotion of youth and educational initiatives, along with the strengthening of humanitarian and regional cooperation, was also highlighted.
Yuri Vorobyov emphasized the importance of implementing joint projects across various areas and the need to develop interregional cooperation. He outlined steps planned for joint implementation within the framework of several upcoming events.
Both sides expressed their readiness to continue active dialogue and contribute to the advancement of Armenian-Russian interparliamentary relations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was decided that the next, 40th session of the Interparliamentary Commission would be held in the first half of 2026 in Sochi.
As part of the visit, the Armenian delegation participated in the ceremonial unveiling of the statue of Soviet-Armenian Admiral and Hero of the Soviet Union, Hovhannes Isakov.
