Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset, who arrived in Armenia on an official visit.
Armenia's Prime Minister welcomed the Secretary General’s visit and lauded the cooperation with the Council of Europe, highlighting its role in the process of strengthening democracy, human rights and the rule of law, the prime minister’s office said in a readout.
Pashinyan thanked the Council of Europe for the continuous support to ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia.
Secretary General Alain Berset reiterated the Council of Europe’s readiness to continue closely cooperating with the government of Armenia and supporting initiatives aimed at assisting the development of democratic institutions and human rights protection.
The Secretary General congratulated Pashinyan on the occasion of Armenia being selected as the host of the European Political Community Summit and COP17 in 2026, describing it as a testament to the growing international reputation of the country.
The agenda of Armenia-Council of Europe cooperation, as well as prospects of enhancing joint programs in the areas of democracy and rule of law were discussed.
Views were exchanged around regional developments and ensuring stability.
