President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Annita Demetriou said Monday that Azerbaijan’s ongoing sham trials against Armenian POWs are unacceptable.
Speaking at a joint press conference with her Armenian counterpart Alen Simonyan in Yerevan, Demetriou said Cyprus has the same stance as Armenia over the “highly sensitive” issue.
“That is, we cannot agree to anything that contradicts international law and human rights,” she said when asked to comment about the unlawfully held Armenian POWs and their sham trials in Azerbaijan.
“And that’s our principled stance around any issue,” she added.
Demetriou expressed hope for a resolution of the matter. “It is really unacceptable that in 2025 we discuss or see such manifestations and images,” she said, referring to the mock trials in Azerbaijan.
