We welcome good faith efforts to reduce tensions, US Embassy Yerevan answers Lurer’s questions

Recently, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan regularly spreads information about violations of the ceasefire regime by the units of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Armenia. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia denied all these accusations.

In order to prevent the emergence of tension, the staff of the Prime Minister of Armenia proposed to the staff of the President of Azerbaijan through diplomatic channels to create a bilateral mechanism for investigating the cases of violations of the ceasefire regime. The Armenian side proposed to start the implementation of the mentioned mechanism.

Given the great public interest in the topic, Armenia’s First Channel (Public TV) News (Lurer) asked US Embassy in Yerevan to provide their position on some questions
.
First Channel (Public TV) News: How does the United States evaluate the Armenian side's proposal to create a bilateral mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations?

US Embassy in Yerevan: “We welcome the work towards peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.  We support Armenia and Azerbaijani’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.  We hope Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a durable peace treaty that recognizes such sovereignty and territorial integrity– the sooner the better”.

First Channel (Public TV) News: Is the US ready to support the process of forming this mechanism?

US Embassy in Yerevan: “We welcome good faith efforts to reduce tensions and to reach a durable and dignified peace in the region.  The United States stands ready to support further engagement in any way useful to the parties”.

First Channel (Public TV) News: During the negotiations with the representatives of Azerbaijan, do US officials discuss the issue of risk reduction on the Armenia-Azerbaijani border and the proposals publicly presented by the Armenian side for this purpose (creating an incident investigation mechanism, signing a non-aggression pact, creating an arms control mechanism)?

US Embassy in Yerevan: “The parties have made significant progress over the past year.  We encourage them to maintain momentum, building on past negotiations, and conclude an agreement as soon as possible”.

First Channel (Public TV) News: Does Azerbaijan's submission of new demands to Armenia outside the agenda of the negotiation process not endanger the prospects of signing the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty?

US Embassy in Yerevan: “The United States has been clear that there is no military solution to this conflict.  We believe continued violence undermines the progress made by Armenia and Azerbaijan toward a durable and dignified peace”.
