Vagharshak Hakobyan, a member of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction, referred to Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that the Prime Minister considered the statements coming from Baku in recent days as a serious blow to the peace process.
“The Prime Minister's statements are public, and these statements are aimed at the conclusion of the peace agenda we have declared and moving the issue forward, and I think we should make concrete situational assessments here for comments. We regularly have discussions about both the peace agenda and the process of pursuing the peace agenda, and everything happens publicly, the Prime Minister and many of our teammates also inform the public.
I remember for years, we all witnessed that rhetoric,” he said.
The deputy noted that the peace agenda, which was announced by the political authorities, should be steadily and logically moved forward. “We may have many difficulties along the way. They will try to provoke us, to stop us from the peace agenda, but politically it is a priority and we will do everything to make the peace agenda a reality. Another thing is that it is impossible to do this unilaterally. I want to assure once again that Armenia has no desire to deviate from the peace agenda. However, we are obliged to put the state interest of Armenia above everything else, and I myself think that our state interest requires that we follow the peace agenda, taking into account all the difficulties, surprising and also unexpected announcements for us, but we must move towards this with an agenda,” said Hakobyan.
“The peace agenda is the agenda that the state interest of Armenia requires. We will not take any steps other than those aimed at the state interest. Our desire is to make the 29,800 square kilometers of the territory of Armenia safe, and this path is quite complicated, wrinkled is, and maybe it can also be painful, but we must logically take these steps to their milestone, because only at this milestone, Armenia can have the future that we dream and predict,” he said.
Regarding the goal of the President of Azerbaijan to have a road without control, Vagharshak Hakobyan said.
“Let me tell you our goal. Armenia cannot give up its sovereignty under any circumstances. Armenia has done and is doing everything to maintain its sovereignty and to have open borders. We are going in this direction, and this is the overarching problem for us."
