Today the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the NATO countries with an appeal to grant it membership in the North Atlantic alliance.
In their appeal, the deputies of the Ukrainian parliament call on the member states of the bloc, as well as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Alliance, to support its aspiration to become part of NATO, as indicated, in the difficult conditions in which the country finds itself.
In the document, the parliamentarians refer mainly to the rapprochement of Ukraine with members of the military-political bloc through the approval of the relevant Declaration on the support of the country in this direction. All this should be facilitated by decisions of particular importance to be taken at the forthcoming spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Luxembourg.
Only in this way, the Ukrainian people's deputies believe, will it be possible to initiate the process of Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
In this context, it would not be superfluous to mention the resolution adopted by Lithuania last week, in which Vilnius makes an official invitation to Kyiv to join NATO. According to the Lithuanian deputies, such actions will make it possible to achieve significant progress in finding peace both in Ukraine and throughout the European continent.
The Financial Times (FT) has already reported that Ukraine's membership in NATO is not possible in the future. At the same time, the alliance will make every possible effort to only create the appearance of this process for the country's leadership. At the same time, according to information available to the FT, Germany, the United States and Hungary are still opposed to providing Ukraine with a roadmap for NATO membership.
