Martuni under shelling

It is the second day of the ceasefire agreement, but the people of Artsakh continue to hear the shell explosions and air alarms throughout the country. Martuni town of Artsakh has been shelled for 2 nights already.

They had not managed to recover from the first blow, when the other shell hit. On October 10, around midnight, when ceasefire agreement already was in force about for 10 hours, the Saghyans' house was razed to the ground in seconds. Only 75-year-old Pargev Saghyan was at home.

The son, Armen Saghyan, was spending the night in the shelter with his brother. The father refused to leave the house, his age did not allow him, he did not want to leave the house. The sons took food home twice a day.

Armen Saghyan - Pargev Saghyan's son , a resident of Martuni, Artsakh.

"There was a shelling at midnight, they called me and said the rocket hit your house, my brother and I immediately ran and saw that the rocket hit the wall of the house, there was a big hole".

They walked around the house several times, shouting in anticipation of a miracle, but in vain, there was no response.

"My brother and I tried to do something with our hands, we moved the stones, he was on the first floor, we reached the ceiling. Then the neighbors, the relatives came and said it is not necessary by hand, you will not achieve anything.

Vahram Saghyan - Head of the Fire and Rescue Unit of Martuni, Artsakh

"We tried to somehow destroy the rubble, remove the body of the man, who according to preliminary data was dead, we decided to take out the man in the morning, with the help of  equipment".

Pargev Saghyan's body was removed only with the help of special equipment. This is the third casualty of this family during the Artsakh wars. Armen's two brothers were killed in the first war.

The second day of the ceasefire was not calm in Martuni either, after the night shelling 3 apartment buildings were damaged, fortunately without casualties.
