Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan started today's briefing with bad news: at the moment there are about 200 coronavirus infected in Armenia who are waiting to be hospitalized.
"In other words today our healthcare system is already so overloaded that we do not manage to accommodate the patients subject to hospitalization in the hospitals. Moreover, we already have a case when a person died of coronavirus due to a delay”, said the Prime Minister.
"Today we nearly approached the decision to declare a total and unconditional lockdown but as a result of discussions we saw that such a decision will not bring the desired results. Not only because its economic consequences will be severe, but also because we are convinced that quarantine will not be observed properly”, Pashinyan stated.
According to the Prime Minister, the only way to resolve the situation is a general, total anti-epidemic movement in the Republic of Armenia, when each of us is guided by the assumption that he is infected and should not infect others.
The Prime Minister also reminded that the WTO has revised its previous opinion on the effectiveness of wearing masks, and it now fully complies with the decisions made by the RA Government.
"We have reached the edge or we have already crossed the line beyond which there is a hellish situation, but I want to say what the government has to do in this situation.
The government is taking two steps in two directions: communicate directly with the people, presenting the truth, secondly, take all possible measures to increase the number of beds and resuscitation systems in hospitals", said Nikol Pashinyan.
